Brussels/Sofia, February 1 (BTA) - Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and European Investment Bank (EIB) President Werner Hoyer discussed in Brussels Thursday the opportunities for cooperation in the projects for the Western Balkans' connectivity with the EU, the government's information service said.

During the meeting Borissov noted that the partnership should produce results that help the region's development. He gave as an example the initiatives of the World Bank and of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Borissov recalled that the Sofia meeting in December of leaders of the countries of the Western Balkans organized by the World Bank ended with concrete financial commitments. He said that talks on the topic with the EBRD management are due in London.

Hoyer said that interest in the region is big and that the EIB considers digital connectivity as the main priority.

Borissov said that Bulgaria works perfectly well with the EIB. He once again stressed that the connectivity of the infrastructure in the Western Balkans is a basis for the development of the region and for its European perspective. Borissov said he is ready to familiarize the EIB management with the concrete needs in infrastructure of each country and stressed the key importance for the region and for entire Europe as well of the European transport corridors whose construction needs additional financing.
