Dobrich, Northeast Bulgaria, July 17 (BTA) - Close to 60 per cent of the wheat fields in the region of Dobrich have been harvested already, the Regional Agriculture Directorate reported Monday. According to the latest data, a total of 381,799 tonnes of wheat have been harvested from 70,800 ha of land.

The average yield was 539 kg per 0.1 ha. It was highest in the municipality of Kavarna, where the yield was 585 kg. Last year's wheat harvest in Dobrich Region was record-high in recent years, with the average yield reaching close to 600 kg of wheat per ha.

Wheat started trading at a slow pace in the region of Dobrich, head of the National Grain Producer Association Kostadin Kostadinov told BTA. According to him, wheat is currently sold at 305 leva per tonne on site. It is still early to say whether the price will go up, as there is still no information about the harvest in the Black Sea basin, he said. Wheat was traded at 280 leva per tonne at this time last year.
