site.btaMagnitude 4.5 Earthquake Registered in Northwestern Turkiye's Balikesir Province


An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.5 was registered at 12:02 PM near the town of Sindirgi in Turkiye's northwestern Balikesir Province, TRT Haber reported, citing the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority.
The quake struck at a depth of 7 kilometres. No casualties or material damage have been reported so far.
A stronger tremor, measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale, was recorded shortly after midnight in the same area, TRT Haber noted.
Since the 6.1-magnitude earthquake on 10 August, which left one person dead and nearly 30 injured, aftershocks around Sındırgı have continued. Turkish seismologist Prof. Serif Barıs recently told TRT that the aftershocks may last for about a year.
