The Bulgarian relay team advanced to the semi-finals of the World Junior Short Track Championships held in Calgary, Canada, on Saturday.
Ivan Donchev, Stefan-Aleksandar Kyumyurdzhiev, Maxim Maximov, and Asen Gyurov secured second place in their quarter-final heat of the 3000 metres relay, finishing with a time of 4:14.516 minutes, just behind China. This performance places Bulgaria among the top eight junior teams globally. They will compete next in the semi-finals against the Republic of Korea, Hungary, and China.
In individual events, Ivan Donchev performed strongly in the 1000 metres, advancing to the quarter-finals after finishing second in his initial heat and third in the subsequent round. Stefan-Aleksandar Kyumyurdzhiev received a penalty in his preliminary heat.
The Championships continue with repechages in the 1500 and 500 metres events, featuring Bulgarian athletes, alongside the relay semi-finals.
