Milena Todorova achieved another excellent result in her career, finishing fifth in the 12.5 km mass start at the Biathlon World Championships in the Swiss winter resort of Lenzerheide.

The best Bulgarian female biathlete missed two targets in the four shooting bouts and was just 24.3 seconds behind the champion, Elvira Oberg (Sweden).

This is the best result for Bulgaria in the women's competition at the World Championships since 2004.

The other Bulgarian biathlete, Laura Hristova, finished 26th, taking four penalty laps and finishing 2:45.5 minutes behind the winner.

The last time Bulgaria had more than one biathlete in the mass start at a World Championship was in Oberhof in 2004, when Katerina Dafovska finished sixth, and Irina Nikulchina and Pavlina Filipova placed 19th and 21st, respectively.

For the first time in her career, Sweden’s Elvira Oberg became World Champion. Before this victory, she had two silver and three bronze medals from World Championships, both individually and in the Swedish relay team.

Second place went to France’s Oceane Michelon, who was 9.4 seconds behind with three penalty laps, while the bronze medal was claimed by Maren Kirkeeide (Norway), 16.5 seconds behind the leader, also with three mistakes on the shooting range.

The World Championship ended later on Saturday with the men’s 15 km mass start, with no Bulgarian participation.
