site.btaSkier Albert Popov Places 18th in Season’s First World Cup Men’s Slalom
Bulgaria’s top alpine skier Albert Popov placed 18th in the season’s first World Cup men’s slalom, held in the Finnish ski resort of Levi on Sunday.
Popov clocked an aggregate racing time of 1:56.49 min after coming in 13th in the first run in 1:00.78 min and 21st in the second run in 55.71 sec.
This was also the season’s first competition for Popov, who currently ranks 27th in the world in slalom.
Another Bulgarian, Kalin Zlatkov, dropped out after the first run, during which he lost balance in the middle section of the trail and could not finish the distance. It was Zlatkov’s debut in World Cup slalom.
Beijing 2022 Olympic champion Clement Noel of France won the slalom on an aggregate racing time of 1:53.98 min (59.67 sec in the first run, 54.31 sec in the second run). This is the 11th victory in Noel’s career and his first since January 2023.
