Bulgarian open water swimmer Tsanko Tsankov recorded another significant success in his career after swimming one of the most difficult Oceans Seven marathons in Hawaii - the longest of all seven marathons from Molokai to Oahu in 16 hours and 23 minutes, Tsankov's manager Nikolay Iliev said.

In a tough battle with strong Pacific Ocean currents and huge waves, Tsankov reached the finish at 10:02 am local time. The start was given a day earlier at 5:39 pm. The distance was 26 nautical miles as the crow flies, but the Bulgarian covered considerably more miles due to the harsh ocean conditions, with Tsanko Tsankov having swum 32.04 miles (51,560 metres) according to the boat's GPS.

"I dedicate this success to Bulgaria and my family. I went through a lot of hardships, but I managed to finish ashore in Oahu. The conditions were tough, especially at night when a strong storm and rain came up. This is the Pacific Ocean after all. Thanks to my team and all my compatriots for the great support", Tsankov said.

At the finishing point, the Bulgarian competitor was greeted by members of the local Open Water Swimming Association, who presented him with the traditional Hawaiian wreaths of success.
