Viktoriya Tomova has kicked off her participation in the Wuhan Open tennis tournament in China with a win.

Bulgaria's best female tennis player beat Ashlyn Kruger of the US, 1-6, 7-6(8), 7-5, after 2 hours and 37 minutes of play. Tomova saved four match points in the tiebreak of the second set, making it to the second round of the tournament.

In the second round, the Bulgarian will face No. 4 seed Coco Gauff of the US. The two have not met in an official match so far.

For qualifying for the second round, Tomova will earn 65 points for the world ranking and receive USD 20,714 of the USD 3.2 million prize money.
