Bulgaria's best female tennis player Viktoriya Tomova secured a quota for participation in the Olympics in Paris 2024, the Bulgarian Tennis Federation announced Thursday.

Officially, those taking part in the singles competition in the French capital will be announced on Monday, but the calculations show that Tomova has done enough to get into the women's scheme, the matches of which will be played on clay from July 27 to August 4.

As per the International Tennis Federation (ITF) regulations, 56 players are eligible for the ranking. In this case, the number will be increased to 57 because France will not use its home quota as it has two tennis players in the top 50. In Monday's rankings, Tomova is expected to be around world number 69, which is close to her career best (64th). No more than four players from a country are eligible to play in the Olympics. There are currently ten Americans, ten Russians, eight Czechs, five Chinese and five Ukrainians in front of Tomova, which automatically frees up 18 spots.

Tomova will become the seventh Bulgarian player to participate in the Olympic tennis tournament, after Manuela Maleeva (1988, bronze medal), Katerina Maleeva (1988, 1992), Magdalena Maleeva (1992, 1996, 2004), Elena Pampulova (1992), Tsvetana Pironkova (2008, 2012, 2016) and Grigor Dimitrov (2012, 2016).
