The Danube Ultra bike race started in Vidin Tuesday morning. More than 150 amateur cyclists from seven countries - Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, Ukraine, Germany, Belgium and the UK, will ride the distance of 700 km, organizer Boris Begumov said before the start. It is the tenth  edition of the event which aims to promote more than 110 settlements on its route along the River Danube and in the Dobrudzha region, Begumov added. 

Vidin Mayor Tsvetan Tsenkov was at the start line with his bicycle. He wished success to the participants and received a special cycling shirt. He will be part of the race for the first few kilometers only.

Among the participants are veterans, amateurs and more advanced bikers. The first to start were the latter group who have a challenge to cover the distance of over 700 km from Vidin to Durankulak in less than 48 hours. Next were the biking enthusiasts whose goal is to complete the route without setting a time.

The oldest participant is 80-year-old Prof. Antoaneta Momchilova from the Ruse University.

Official partners of Danube Ultra are the municipalities of Vidin, Mizia, Oryahovo, Dolna Mitropolia, Gulyantsi, Belene, Nikopol, Dve Mogili, Ruse, Silistra, General Toshevo and Shabla.
