Daniel Assenov Aims for
Boxing Gold in Tokyo
Tokyo, July 26 (BTA spec. corr. Dimiter Velyov) - Two-time European boxing champion Daniel Assenov is pleased with his performance during his first match at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the 52 kg category. Assenov advanced to the eighth-finals after a clear victory against Cosmin Girleanu from Romania, with 5-0 votes.
"This is a good start but I cannot say I showed the best. The first match is always the hardest, as well as the first weigh-in. Still, I played well and chose winning tactics. I hope I will reach the finals. I need self-confidence and a victory such as this one helps. I am ready to defeat anyone," the athlete said.
"My goal is reaching the finals but not only this. I will give my best for an Olympic gold," Assenov said.
To qualify for the quarter-finals Assenov fights Saturday against Gabriel Escobar, Spain. LN, NV/ZH//
