Bulgaria's Nuclear Regulatory Agency (NRA) and the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) are organizing a joint regional training on AP1000 reactor technology in Sofia between April 7 and 16, the NRA reported. The forum, the first of its kind in Europe, will be led by instructors from the NRC, and 30 experts from nuclear regulators in Bulgaria, Ukraine, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Sweden will participate in the training.

The course was kicked off by NRA Chair Tsanko Bachiyski, Chargé D’Affaires at the US Embassy in Sofia Susan Falatko, and NRC Chair David A. Wright who addressed the participants virtually.

The training is part of the support that the NRC is providing to the NRA in building the necessary administrative and technical capacity to meet the challenges related to the development of Bulgaria's nuclear programme, the NRA said.
