The total number of airline passengers in European Union countries reached approximately 482 million in the first six months of 2024, marking a 0.7% increase compared to the same period in 2019, according to data from the European statistical agency Eurostat released on Tuesday.

Air passenger traffic rose in all EU countries except Sweden.

Bulgaria saw a 2.8% increase in air passenger numbers compared to the same period in 2023, with a total of 4.74 million passengers traveling to and from the country in the first half of 2024.

Among EU member states, Czechia recorded the highest growth in air passenger numbers (23.6%), followed by Slovenia (21.7%) and Croatia (20.9%).

Spain remained the busiest air travel destination in the EU, with nearly 144 million passengers in the first six months of 2024, followed by Italy (100 million), Germany (96 million), and France (91 million).
