Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) Governor Dimitar Radev and Oesterreichische Nationalbank (Austrian National Bank) Governor Robert Holzmann talked about the latest issues in economic development both in Europe and worldwide and addressed the economic challenges concerning price and financial stability that Central and Eastern European countries and the Western Balkans face during a meeting here on Thursday, BNB said on its website.
The meeting also covered Bulgaria's path toward the euro area and the country's progress in meeting the necessary criteria. It was noted that there are real chances for Bulgaria to soon meet the inflation criterion, BNB said.
Both governors firmly agreed that it is essential for central banks to function as professional and independent entities to effectively meet their obligations. They also said that they wish for the strong collaboration between the two central banks to continue in the future.
As part of his visit, Holzmann toured the BNB's museum collection and the exhibition celebrating the 145th anniversary of its founding.
