"The mission of the middle powers is to play an increasingly important role in international relations and to form a new multilateralism to help solve global challenges." Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev said this in his remarks at the XII Global Baku Forum, quoted in a press release on Friday. Bulgaria's top diplomat made the statement during a panel discussion on middle powers in a multipolar world and shaping global governance and influence".
"Our world is facing continuous geopolitical turmoil. Never before in the post-World War Two world have we had a full-scale war in Europe, a proliferation of military conflicts, a fragile global economy, a planet that is warming rapidly, accelerating loss of nature and biodiversity, a technological paradigm shift in the form of AI that opens up enormous new opportunities but alarms many around the world, deepening social inequalities, and last but not least, an increasingly fragmented political space," Georgiev stressed in his speech. "Finding consensus solutions to the conflicts around us is crucial for global security and stability," he stressed.
In his remarks at the forum, the Minister also said that the transatlantic partnership between the EU and the US is lasting and is based on a set of values shared by all humanity. "This strategic partnership, which has defined world peace, stability and prosperity since the end of World War Two, is as necessary as ever. Europe and the European Union must continue to engage constructively and strategically with the US administration. This is a political necessity if we are to achieve what I hope is a common goal for all of us today - a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine in accordance with the principles of the UN Charter and international law," Georgiev said, stressing that Bulgaria welcomes President Trump's strong commitment to stop Russia's aggression against Ukraine and to reach a negotiated solution.
The Global Baku Forum is organized by the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, the most prestigious and active NGO in Azerbaijan. The main goal of the forum is to promote dialogue and understanding between peoples and cultures and to provide a platform for discussion on current international issues.
This year's edition is themed "Rethinking World Order. Turning Challenges into Opportunities", with individual panels discussing topics such as changes in the global security environment and the need for enhanced international cooperation and reform, the future of Europe and Ukraine, Middle East issues and high technology in the new world order.
