A package of amendments to several tax laws, tabled by the government, was rejected on first reading by the parliamentary economic committee on Wednesday after the leading parliamentary budget committee already rejected it in mid-November.
The parliamentary economic committee failed to adopt amendments to the VAT Act, the Excise Duties and Tax Warehouses Act, the Income Taxes on Natural Persons Act, the Corporate Income Tax Act, the Tax and Social-Insurance Procedure Code, the Limitation of Cash Payments Act, and the Local Taxes and Fees Act.
The bills were presented by Lyudmila Petkova, head of the Tax Policy unit with the Finance Ministry.
They include a broad range of changes: an increase of corporate tax for some large businesses from 10% to 15%; a differentiation of immovable property tax by settlement, by zone within settlements, and by type of property; and taxing mushroom and fruit gatherers.
