Serbia's Minister of State Administration and Local Self-Government Jelena Zaric Kovacevic attended the inauguration of the new swimming pool in the village of Donji Dusnik, located in Nisava District in Southeast Serbia, the Ministry said on its website. The construction of the pool, worth about EUR 340,000, was carried out under a cross-border cooperation project between Serbia and Bulgaria with the support of the European Union.

Zaric Kovacevic said on Friday at the opening ceremony that her Ministry supports cooperation and friendship between countries, regions and local authorities. She stressed that the Ministry encourages the establishment and improvement of cooperation between municipalities and cities in Serbia, but also pointed out that cooperation with states and local authorities in the region is equally important for joint development, stability, peace and future.

The swimming pool was built under the project "Sports Tourism - Our Common Future", in which the Bulgarian municipality of Kostinbrod is the lead partner and the Serbian municipality of Gadzin Han, where Doni Dusnik is located, is the project partner. Under the project, Kostinbrod built an indoor sports court.

For the period 2014-2020, under the EU-supported cross-border cooperation programme "Interreg Bulgaria-Serbia", more than 100 projects have been implemented with a total value of EUR 35.1 million between 2014 and 2020 under the EU-supported Interreg Bulgaria-Serbia cross-border cooperation programme. A total of EUR 38.1 million are allocated for the 2021-2027 programming period. The programme covers the Serbian districts of Bor, Zajecar, Nisava, Pirot, Toplice, Jablanica and Pcinja, and in Bulgaria the regions of Vidin, Montana, Vratsa, Pernik, Kyustendil and Sofia.
