The Bulgarian Maritime Training Centre (BMTC) is planning to build a charging station for electric boats, the company's executive director captain Dencho Dobrev told BTA. He specified that while such vessels are already in use off the coast of Varna, their owners are forced to look for options to charge them in various places.

For funding, the BMTC can rely on Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski, which has a project ready to study the efficiency of electric vehicles. Dobrev said that if the University does not win funding for its project, the Maritime Centre could build the charging station with its own funds.

The BMTC has invested nearly BGN 140,000 in an 82-megawatt photovoltaic plant, which powers the Centre. The plant can fully satisfy the needs of the BMTC from May to October. Throughout the summer, it can return electricity to the general grid. He specified that the investment will be paid back in about four and a half years.
