At an extraordinary sitting at 1 pm, MPs will elect the new governor of the Bulgarian National Bank, according to the programme published on the website of the National Assembly.

Dimitar Radev, nominated by GERB-UDF, and Lyubomir Hristov, nominated by Vazrazhdane, will run for the post.

Dimitar Radev met last Wednesday with representatives of Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB), after which CC co-leader Kiril Petkov announced to journalists that they would support Radev.

The two candidates for BNB governor were heard on Friday by Parliament's budget committee.

Radev promised to ensure continuity of the achievements made during his previous term. He assured that he would work to achieve a very high degree of integration of the banking sector into the euro area's financial infrastructure.

Hristov outlined seven priorities, fully in line with the Governor's mandate if elected. First of all, he put the elaboration of an official analysis, adopted by the BNB Board, of the medium-term effects of the introduction of the euro in the country.

According to the rules adopted by the MPs, the candidate who receives more than half of the votes of the deputies present in the chamber is considered elected. When no one obtains the necessary votes, a decision is taken to open a new procedure.

At Tuesday’s extraordinary sitting, the MPs will continue with the second reading of amendments to the Markets in Financial Instruments Act. They will also consider, again in a second vote, amendments to the Bulgarian Identity Documents Act.

The agenda also includes the election of the National Assembly's permanent delegations to international organisations, and Question Time with Ministers of Energy Rumen Radev, of Transport Georgi Gvozdeikov, of e-government Alexander Yolovski, of Finance Assen Vassilev, and of Interior Kalin Stoyanov.
