The average working life expectancy for people who are now 15 years old in the EU is 36 years. Since 2001, the projected average working life expectancy in the EU has been increasing at a steady pace before decreasing for the first time in 2020 due to the Covid-19 health crisis (from 32 years in 2011 to 35.9 years in 2019 and 35 .6 years in 2020) and returning to pre-pandemic levels in 2021, Eurostat reported on Wednesday.
