Two 7-year-old bear siblings named Frol and Frosia are the newest residents of Bear Sanctuary Belitsa, Southwestern Bulgaria, the animal welfare organization Four Paws said on Monday. The bears were transported from Bear Sanctuary Domazhyr in Ukraine to live in the Bulgarian sanctuary run by Four Paws in cooperation with the Brigitte Bardot Foundation.

In 2020, the brother and sister were rescued from a grim existence in an abandoned hotel, where they were used as an attraction. They are in good health and temporarily housed in the quarantine sector of Belitsa to be monitored by a veterinarian.

The animals had to find a new home after Bear Sanctuary Domazhyr reached its full capacity of 31 bears. They crossed Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania before arriving here.

In early September, the Four Paws Foundation celebrated 25 years since its establishment in Bulgaria. At the time, 15 bears were living in the sanctuary, as reported by its director, Nikola Popkostadinov.
