Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov said that what unites Bulgarians today is the search for good examples. He spoke at the celebration of the National Awakeners' Day in Razlog, Southwestern Bulgaria, on Saturday.
"This holiday is more than an abstract commemoration, we honour all those awakeners who, in times of oppression, war, and hardship, kept alive the Bulgarian spirit and virtues and continue to serve as examples," Zhelyazkov said.
He noted that young people must be nurtured with patriotism, kindness, and moral values. Teachers, he added, play a key role in this mission alongside families by inspiring faith, confidence, and the triumph of spirit.
The Prime Minister thanked teachers for their dedication, inspiration, and belief in goodness. He noted that thevNational Awakeners' Day has been celebrated for more than a century, coinciding with the feast of St. John of Rila, the spiritual patron of the Bulgarian people.
Zhelyazkov urged students and teachers to be good people and to follow the example of Bulgaria’s awakeners, "because in their lives and deeds lie many reasons for pride and guidance for our future".
