A certified European artificial intelligence (AI) system will assist radiologists in the Department of Imaging Diagnostics at Kaneff University Hospital in Ruse, Stela Krasteva from the hospital’s Public Relations Department told BTA on Friday. The system was developed by the French company AZmed and Kaneff University Hospital is the first in Northern Bulgaria to implement it.
The hospital explained that the software automatically analyses X-ray images and highlights areas with suspicious findings, directing the physician’s attention to potential problems. Its greatest benefit is for emergency patients with injuries, people admitted after accidents, falls, or sports incidents. AI is particularly effective in detecting fine, hard-to-see fractures that can sometimes be missed during the initial examination.
Head of the Department of Imaging Diagnostics, Ivelin Vaskov, noted that artificial intelligence does not replace the radiologist, but acts as a second pair of eyes that never gets tired.
For patients, this means faster image interpretation, especially during emergency shifts, a lower risk of oversight, and greater assurance that each image is reviewed twice, by both a physician and the AI system.
