Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov will head the Bulgarian delegation to the 80th regular session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the Government’s press service said here Sunday.
This year’s General Debate is held under the theme “Better Together: 80 Years and Beyond for Peace, Development and Human Rights.” It highlights the need to strengthen multilateralism through diplomacy, constructive dialogue, and sustainable partnerships, focusing on the equal importance and interconnectedness of the UN’s three pillars – peace and security, development, and human rights.
The year 2025 marks both the 80th anniversary of the signing of the UN Charter and the 70th anniversary of Bulgaria’s membership in the organization.
During his visit to New York, Zhelyazkov will meet with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and hold talks with representatives of US businesses. He will also attend the traditional reception hosted by US President Donald Trump and take part in a forum organized by the Nizami Ganjavi International Center.
On the occasion of the 117th anniversary of Bulgaria’s Independence, the Prime Minister will be a guest of honour at an official reception for the Bulgarian community, hosted by the Bulgarian Consulate General.
The delegation includes Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev, Justice Minister Georgi Georgiev, Health Minister Silvi Kirilov, Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov, and Labour and Social Policy Minister Borislav Gutsanov.
The Council of Ministers approved Bulgaria’s positions and delegation line-up for the 80th UNGA session on 2 September.
The landmark 80th UNGA session opened on 9 September in New York, with delegations from all 193 UN member states taking part.
