An exhibition featuring ceramic artwork by Ivan Kanchev will open at Gallery Bulgary on April 1, according to the organizers.
Titled The Circle. Man, Where Are You?, the exhibition will be curated by Axinia Djurova. In Djurova’s words, Kanchev takes inspiration from Neolithic and Thracian ceramics, traditionally known for their black and gray hues, and expands on them by incorporating a full spectrum of colours. He has a particular affinity for blue, which symbolizes infinity and the divine, and rusty-brown tones that evoke earthly, human, and ritualistic interpretations of heavenly messages, the curator said.
Djurova added that Kanchev won the Italian Artist of the Year award, presented by the Effetto Arte Foundation in Florence earlier this year.
Kanchev is a graduate of the ceramics school in Troyan (Northcentral Bulgaria), and has studied at the National Academy of Art in Sofia. He also holds a degree in Psychology from the University of Ruse.
