The May issue of the Bulgarian News Agency's LIK magazine, dedicated to Bulgarian science in Antarctica, has been published in Spanish. The issue follows the second voyage of the Bulgarian naval research ship Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii (RSV 421) to Antarctica and back, with a focus on the projects of the Bulgarian researchers during the expedition.
Copies of the magainze will be on board RSV 421 during her third voyage to Antarctica, which will start from Varna on November 7.
In September, the issue on "Bulgarian Science in Antarctica" was also translated into English. It was presented in Aheloy (on the Black Sea) on September 26 by BTA Director General Kiril Valchev and Prof. Christo Pimpirev , the head of the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute, in the closing part of an international conference on the collaboration of Balkan countries in polar regions under the EU-backed programmes EUPolarNet-2 and POLARIN.
The magazine features highlights from the publications that appeared in BTA's issues on the second voyage of RSV 421, which took place from November 8, 2023 until early April 2024.
LIK also features a text by BTA Director General Kiril Valchev, who shares moments from his participation in three Antarctic expeditions and talks about the opening at the beginning of the year of the Agency's national press club at the Bulgarian base on Livingston Island.
An article by Engineer Yordan Yordanov, a participant in 18 Bulgarian Antarctic expeditions and a member of the Board of the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute, is also published. He tells the story of the "Bulgarian home in Antarctica" - the St. Kliment Ohridski base - and how it has developed over the decades.
LIK magazine's issues are now freely available and up for download on BTA's website.
