The concert of Csikszerda Choir from Hungary on the occasion of the Bulgarian-Hungarian Friendship Day and the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union will take place in the auditorium of Sofia University on October 19, the Hungarian Cultural Institute said Friday.

To the choir members, Csikszerda means not only singing, but also the shared experience of organizing concerts, programmes and festivals. The ensemble builds its repertoire by drawing on different musical traditions, and enjoys using the tools of choral improvisation, through which it often combines the works of classical and contemporary composers with the folk music of different cultures. Their concerts span musical genres and age-old traditions, combined with the shared musical experience of freedom.

Over its 15-year history, Csikszerda has developed a specific performance style. Their concerts are based on traditional folklore, but they don't act out the story, they present its emotional flow with their songs. At the concerts, the audience sits in a circle and encounters spatiality, improvisation, a 50-voice sound curtain and other effects, the organizers said.
