site.btaUnion of Bulgarian Artists Displays Rumen Zhekov's Works

The Union of Bulgarian Artists is staging an exhibition of works by Rumen Zhekov (1960-2022) in Sofia's gallery at 6 Shipka Street. The exhibition will be on between September 30 and October 19, the organizers said.

The curator, Diana Draganova-Stier, has selected Zhekov's last works as well as some by his friends and associates. "In the talented strong generation of contemporary artists who have been working since the late 1990s, Rumen Zhekov's oeuvre has taken its rightful place. Co-founder and active participant in the Plovdiv-based Edge Group, member of the Disco 95 Group and the Art Today Association, the artist worked in painting, drawing, installation and performance," the curator said.

Zhekov was born in the southern town of Haskovo and lived in Plovdiv where he taught at the Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts. He staged more than 30 solo exhibitions and participated in over 200 group projects and representative exhibitions in Bulgaria and abroad. He participated in more than 50 plein air workshops and symposia.
