Constantine Zlatev's exhibition Peace by Peace, a pun on the phrase piece by piece, will open the new season of Sofia's Structura Gallery on September 17, the organizers reported. The exhibition, the artist’s first solo presentation since his return to Bulgaria in 2022, will include kinetic installations, sculptures, prints and video documentation.

The title of the event refers to the idea that every small meaningful action could move humanity away from a global military catastrophe

According to the Structura Gallery website, "Zlatev’s work is a reaction to the use of violence as an expression of political domination, territorial redistribution, economic factors or religious conflicts, exploring its various manifestations through the ages."

Zlatev was inspired by the "Trade Beads" series of works dealing with the historical past and the seemingly inevitable repetition of events. The rosary of cast iron bomb-like shapes best illustrates the exhibition's message as a sign of shattered faith, lost illusions and futile prayers.

The event will run until October 12.

Constantine Zlatev was born in Ruse, on the Danube, in 1974. He works with a variety of media, including glass, metal, stone and wood. Studied industrial design and interdisciplinary art at the California College of the Arts between 2005 and 2010. Moved back to Bulgaria in 2022. His work has been exhibited internationally in Europe and the US.
