The Sofia Philharmonic performed a concert featuring Beethoven's in New York on February 11. Musicians from the Bulgarian Concert Evenings in New York initiative were among those present, including pianists Lora Chekoratova and Nadezhda Vlaeva, the Consulate General of Bulgaria in New York said on its Facebook page.
The solo performance of the 16-year-old virtuoso pianist Ivaylo Vassilev, laureate of dozens of international competitions, was particularly impressive, the diplomatic representation noted.
The Sofia Philharmonic is on a month-and-a-half-long tour in the USA, which includes over 20 concerts, six of which in the American Northeast. The Bulgarian community will have the opportunity to attend concerts in Connecticut, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
The Bulgarian Concert Evenings in New York initiative (BCENY) features classical and contemporary chamber music performed by Bulgarian and international artists. It was established in 2005 and organizes concerts performed with volunteer musicians from Bulgaria, most of which have a free entry.
