At the beginning of Wednesday’s Government meeting, Caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev said that the fire situation continues to be complicated. The situation in Slavyanka Mountain, near the border with Greece, is complicated and volatile, Glavchev further said. He recalled that the fire has been raging on Greek territory for more than two weeks and has recently spread to Bulgaria.

Firefighters, servicemen, foresters and volunteers continue with the extinguishing efforts, there is also assistance under the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.

On Tuesday, two planes sent by France joined the firefighting at the Bulgarian-Greek border, then they moved to the villages of Mikrevo and Tsaparevo (Southwest Bulgaria) because there was a real danger to people's lives and property, the Prime Minister said.

Two Spanish planes, a plane from the Czech Republic, and Defence Ministry aircraft were actively involved in extinguishing a fire in Voden village (Southeast Bulgaria). “We have to take our hat off to them”, Glavchev said, stressing that no country could cope with a disaster of this extend on its own.
