Meeting here on Monday, Bulgarian Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov and leading representatives of the National Representation of Student Councils discussed the link between the quality of higher education, higher schools' financing and students' universal access to education, the Government Information Service said in a press release.

The Government proposal to waive tuition fees for university students in State-subsidized enrollment, which has been submitted to public consultation, was unanimously supported by the members of the National Representation. The students argued that the quality of education is the worst problem in the system and is crucial for young people's future. "Financing must be pegged to the quality of teaching, and your opinion on this is very important and must be reckoned with," the PM told the students.

Regarding students' demands to increase funding for renovation of dorms and the amount of monthly grants for undergraduates and doctoral scholarships, Denkov committed to continued efforts by the Government to this end. The 2024 budget allocates an extra BGN 100 million for this purpose.
