Soprano Mila Mihova will make her debut with the Sofia Philharmonic as Bryn Terfel's partner in a concert on January 28 at Bulgaria Hall in Sofia. The Welsh bass-baritone wished to support a Bulgarian singer in his first appearance in Sofia and, after consultation with Maestro Nayden Todorov, chose Mihova “for her fresh voice, vocal mastery and infectious artistry,” the Philharmonic said on Tuesday.
The event will include overtures, arias and duets from popular operas. These include Aria of Mephistopheles from the opera Mephistopheles by Arrigo Boito, Don Basilio’s Aria from Gioacchino Rossini's opera The Barber of Seville, a duet by Adina and Dulcamara from Gaetano Donizetti's opera The Elixir of Love, a meditation and Aria of Thais from Jules Masne's opera Thais, and Aria of Luisa from Ruperto Chapi's zarzuela The Daughters of Zebedeo.
Also on the programme are arias from Richard Wagner operas, songs from the musical Fiddler on the Roof, Maria's aria from West Side Story, and The Impossible Dream from the musical Man of La Mancha.
"I am very happy that I will start my year with this concert. This joy is not only because of the excitement of partnering with an artist of Bryn Terfel's calibre, who is an absolute inspiration for me and all my colleagues of my generation, but also because this stage encounter will mark my debut with the Sofia Philharmonic, which I have been waiting for for a long time," Mihova commented.
