Burgas Hosts 6th DOCK International Documentary Historical Film Festival

The 6th DOCK International Documentary Historical Film Festival will take place in Burgas from September 17 through 22, 2023.

The official competition programme consists of ten entries: two from Bulgaria (Antoaneta Bachurova's Uprooted and Dimitar Kotzev's Man under Surveillance), two from Italy (Marco Pianigiani's Botticelli Florence and The Medici and Paolo Ameli's Cassino Then and Now), two from France (Yves Jeuland's Charlie Chaplin, Le Genie de la Liberte, and David Korn-Brzoza's 1942: The Velodrome d'hiver Roundup, two from Germany (Christian Berger's Music under the Swastika: The Maestro and the Cellist of Auschwitz and Gulsel Ozkan's Homeland Sickness), and two co-productions: Iara Lee's Stalking Chernobyl: Exploration after Apocalypse (Ukraine/US/Brazil/Bulgaria/Slovakia) and Boris Missirkov and Georgi Bogdanov's The Cars We Drove into Capitalism (Bulgaria/Germany/Denmark/Croatia/Czech Republic).

Another five documentaries will be screened in a special programme marking 80 Years since the Rescue of Bulgarian Jews from the Holocaust during WW II: Kostadin Bonev's The Ships Are Full, Vladimir Shteryanov's The Rescuer, Boyan Papasov's Simon, Avraam and Yosif, Ivo Ivanov's Unfinished Film for Bulgarian Jews, and Galina Georgieva's Chronicle of the Life of Dimitar Peshev.

The ten competing films will be judged by a five-member international jury, chaired by actor, director and MEP Andrey Slabakov and comprising film critic Philipp Bergson, actor and producer Bashar Rahal, composer and conductor Simeon Pironkoff, and Alexander Traykov, Director of the Culture Ministry's Cultural Heritage Conservation Inspectorate Directorate General. They will determine the winner of the Festival's EUR 1,000 award.

Actors, directors and screenwriters from around the world will attend the event. All screenings will take place at the NHK Cultural Centre, with free admission for the audience.
