A partial state of emergency was declared on in the municipality of Topolovgrad Friday evening due to a fire that broke out in the area between the villages of Filipovo and Varnik, according to the press office of the Haskovo Regional Administration. The fire has spread to the territory of the municipality of Svilengrad.

The size of the affected areas reported so far is about 250 hectares. Dry grass, bushes and trees from the forest fund are burning, BTA learned from Mitko Chakalov, head of the Haskovo Regional Directorate of Fire Safety and Population Protection.

Eleven fire engines, one bulldozer, representatives of the hunting and fishing association and volunteers are working on the ground. There is no danger to populated areas, but the situation remains dynamic and teams continue to work actively to contain the fire.

It is assumed that the fire started from a short circuit on a power line, said Chakalov. He specified that the active fronts are between the villages of Filipovtsi and Sladun, where the teams are currently concentrated.
