Authorities in Varna have been alerted and are investigating a report of severe seawater pollution near the city, the Varna Regional Administration's press centre told BTA on Saturday.

The information was received by the emergency hotline 112. The report said that the seawater at the beach in Varna’s Asparuhovo quarter had turned dark brown. According to the Regional Administration, the duty officer at the Executive Agency Maritime Administration also confirmed that the water in the artificial waterway connecting Lake Varna to Varna Bay was polluted.

The Environment and Water Regional Inspectorate in Varna and the State Enterprise Port Infrastructure have been informed about the case.
