Ilieva entered the top 64 as number 5 in the world rankings. She defeated Evelina Popova of the Commonwealth of Independent States 15-13 in her first elimination match. In the match for a place among the top 16, the Bulgarian fencer eliminated Hong Kong's Summer Fay Sit 15-14 in a contested match.
Her next matches were against China's Ying Fu, Ukraine's Alina Komashchuk, and France's Sarah Noutcha, which she won 15-12, 15-6, and 15-12 respectively.
Ilieva faced world number two Misaki Emura from Japan in the final. The Japanese had a strong start and established a 7-2 lead. The two drew at 11-11, but the Bulgarian eventually lost 11-15 after Misaki Emura secured four consecutive points.
