site.btaBy His Decree, President Radev Names Sofia Airport after Bulgarian National Hero Vasil Levski


On the basis of Article 98, Section 13 of the Constitution of the Republic of Bulgaria, by а Decree No. 22 of February 17, 2025, President Rumen Radev named Sofia Airport after the Apostle of Freedom and Bulgarian National hero Vasil Levski. Thus, its official name becomes Vasil Levski Sofia Airport.
In 2017, the proposal to name the airport after the Apostle of Freedom was made by scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) and received wide support. At the end of 2024, the Ministry of Transport and Communications supported the implementation of the project proposed by the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences to name Sofia Airport after Vasil Levski.
