site.btaEC Calls on Bulgaria, 7 EU Member States to Transpose EU Tolls, Vignettes Rules
The European Commission said Monday that it has sent a reasoned opinion to Bulgaria and seven other Member States for their failure to transpose the Eurovignette Directive, said the European Commission Monday. This Directive sets common rules on imposing distance-based charges (tolls) and time-based user charges (vignettes), allowing EU Member States to recover infrastructure costs (construction, operation, maintenance) through tolls and vignettes.
The deadline to transpose the Directive into national law was March 25, 2024. All eight have failed to communicate transposition measures.
The EC issued a reasoned opinion to Bulgaria, Greece, Spain, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Poland and Portugal, which now have two months to respond and take the necessary measures.
