Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov is paying a working visit to the United States on December 10-14 at the invitation of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the prosecution service said. The visit reflects Sarafov's commitment and long-standing cooperation with the US partner agencies, starting with his tenure as director of the National Investigative Service between 2017 and 2023.
In Washington, DC, Sarafov is scheduled to meet with representatives of the law enforcement institutions.
He will attend the graduation ceremony of the 292nd session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Georgi Trenchev from the Investigation Department of the Sofia City Prosecution Office was a trainee at the FBI Academy this year.
The training of Bulgarian investigators in Quantico was agreed during Sarafov's visit to Washington in May, when FBI Director Christopher Wray awarded him a certificate of appreciation for his personal contribution to the successful cooperation between Bulgarian prosecutors and investigators and the FBI in the fight against international organized crime.
In 2021 and 2022, Sarafov won recognition from US partners for successful computer crime investigations, the prosecution service said.
