The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry has advised Bulgarian citizens and transport operators not to travel to Novi Sad, Serbia, on February 1 due to expected protests in the city following the tragic accident caused by the collapse of a canopy at the local railway station building in November 2024. The Ministry issued this recommendation on Monday, emphasizing the importance of strictly following the instructions of law enforcement authorities in case of temporary traffic restrictions.
According to a statement from the Ministry's Situational Centre, a protest march from Belgrade to Novi Sad has been organized. Additionally, blockades are planned on three bridges over the Danube River in Novi Sad. At present, there are no indications that traffic on the international E-75 highway will be disrupted, the ministry added.
On January 30, protesting Serbian students began their march from Belgrade to Novi Sad and announced their route on social media under the slogan "One Step Away from Justice!" The goal of the student rally is to gather all protesters in the Novi Sad square on February 1, marking three months since the tragedy in the northern Serbian city, and to honour the fifteen victims who lost their lives when a concrete canopy at the local railway station collapsed.
