Sofia's Cathedral of St. Alexander Nevsky will be celebrating November 22 and 23 the centenary of its consecration. Delegations from all local Orthodox churches will visit Sofia for the celebration, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church said in a press release as it announced the upcoming observances earlier in the week.
On November 22, an evening service with a bread blessing will take place at the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. On November 23, a holy liturgy at the cathedral will be led by Patriarch Daniil of Bulgaria and Metropolitan of Sofia.
The Bulgarian Orthodox Church - Bulgarian Patriarchate urged Orthodox Christians to join in prayer for the spiritual celebrations.
The cathedral was consecrated on September 12, 2024, but the anniversary will be celebrated on November 23, which is the church's winter feast day, Bishop Gerasim of Melnik, the Secretary General of the Holy Synod told BTA.
