Natalia Kisselova, MP of BSP-United Left, said on Bulgarian National Radio on Monday that the congress of the Bulgarian Socialist Party has a decision not to support a GERB government, much less one with Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, and such an option is not acceptable. "It would be wiser to put forward those legislative decisions that would be necessary for the coming weeks and months, on the basis of which to seek support for a government," said Kisselova.
According to her, once the emotions subside, the parliamentary groups will find a dialogue with each other to elect a speaker of the National Assembly. She did not rule out the possibility of new candidates on Wednesday.
The restoration of the president's powers to form a caretaker cabinet is one of the options to overcome the political crisis. This week the left will submit two petitions to the Constitutional Court - to review the legitimacy of the elections and to declare unconstitutional a list of public office holders from which a caretaker prime minister is appointed. Kisselova recalled that in the summer the Constitutional Court had neither rejected nor confirmed the constitutionality of the provision.
According to Kisselova, the list is one of the reasons why the stakes for the election of the speaker of the National Assembly are so high, because the political forces see in him a potential caretaker prime minister. It also explains why an ombudsman has not yet been elected.
