All Bulgarian parties should be able to cooperate with the administration of the new US President, Donald Trump, Bulgarian MEP Andrey Kovatchev (GERB/EPP) told reporters here on Wednesday. The MEP was one of the quaestors in the European Parliament (EP) at a press conference in Brussels.
Kovatchev who has been an MEP since 2009 believes that the relations between Bulgaria and the US, as well as between the EU and the US, are contingent on whether the election promises made by Trump's campaign will be fulfilled. He added that what matters geopolitically is whether there is a sign of parity between the election campaign and the new US policy towards Russia, Iran, Taiwan and the Middle East.
Kovatchev stated that the EU's voice should be heard louder when it comes to emerging military conflicts. He said that the Union should have its own aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean, another carrier off the coast of the Middle East, that the EU should have its own military satellite, so that it does not rely exclusively on the US for satellite photos.
He noted that Trump's policy towards the Western Balkans will also be of importance.
