Father Stefan from the St. Nicholas Church will serve a memorial service in memory of Ruse's intellectuals killed by the communist regime, the Ruse regional administration reported Sunday.

The service will be held on at noon on Tuesday, November 5, in the area of Balov Dol between the villages of Shtraklevo and Nisovo. The memorial service will also be attended by Ruse Regional Governor Dragomir Draganov. He invites people with a clear consciousness of what happened in those dark years to come and pay their respects to the memory of victims of extrajudicial killings. "The truth should not be compromised, these tragic moments of our history should be known and remembered," Draganov said.

On November 2 and 3, 1944, dozens of intellectuals from Ruse were shot between the villages of Shtraklevo and Nisovo, and their bodies were dumped in the area of Balov Dol.
