Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) - New Beginning leader Delyan Peevski told reporters in Parliament on Thursday that while his party does not participate in the government, it does support the government in "doing good things for the people". He added that he will continue to back the government, as long as it continues to do its job.
Peevski specified: "We do not and will not participate in [this] government. I want them to work for the people, to develop Bulgaria and to work against the oligarchy."
The MRF - New Beginning leader stated that his party would benefit from new elections, as it would double its number of MPs and become the second largest political force represented in Parliament, however, "What matters is that the people are well, and Bulgaria is well." Today, the party is the fourth largest in Parliament with 29 MPs.
Asked about a potential vote of no confidence submitted by Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) after June, Peevski said that his party would never collaborate with CC-DB.
Commenting on a possible new vote of no confidence in two weeks, which as requested by Velichie leader Ivelin Mihaylov, Peevski stated that such initiatives are useless and only waste Parliament's and the public's time.
Asked whether he expects to have his name taken out of the Global Magnitsky Act, Peevski stated: "I have submitted all the necessary documents a long time ago, because this is a scam concocted by [George] Soros-affiliated entities and their media and NGOs in Bulgaria." In 2021, Peevski was designated by the US under the Global Magnitsky Act as an oligarch who "has regularly engaged in corruption, using influence peddling and bribes to protect himself from public scrutiny and exert control over key institutions and sectors in Bulgarian society".
