"Several people in this country are exceedingly well qualified for the office of EU commissioner, and they would very professionally and befittingly stand up for themselves, for the country's interest and for the interest of all Europe," Bulgarian Vice President Iliana Iotova told journalists here on Tuesday.
"I hope that then parties will nominate precisely these people, and I hope that the best one will be elected," she added.
"I have worked with a large part of these people and can say that Bulgaria will have a worthy EU commissioner," Iotova pointed out.
President Rumen Radev said, for his part, that caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev should better consult the parties about the selection of a new Bulgarian EU commissioner.
EU Member States have until August 31 to submit a male and a female nominee for commissioner, except in the cases where the incumbent will keep his or her job.
