“When it comes to me, specifically, it is absolutely out of the question to even comment the possibility of assuming the functions of prime minister,” Bulgarian National Bank Deputy Governor Radoslav Milenkov told journalists here on Wednesday after his meeting with President Rumen Radev. He explained that in addition to his work as BNB’s Deputy Governor, he is also a member of the European Central Bank’s Supervisory Board and the European Banking Authority’s Board of Supervisors, explaining that this comes “with its commitments and limitations”. Milenkov noted that in addition to BNB’s Banking Supervision Department, he is also in charge its Issue Department.

According to Milenkov, both him and the President are aware of the situation and what the limitations are. Asked about another BNB Deputy Governor, Petar Chobanov, who expressed readiness to become caretaker prime minister, Milenkov said he would not give evaluations of his colleagues.

Radoslav Milenkov was received by the President as part of the meetings the head of State is conducting with the public office holders who are part of the pool of candidates that can be selected as caretaker prime minister, as defined in the Constitution.
