In an announcement published on the Bulgarian Patriarchate on Thursday, the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church expressed satisfaction with the legal ban on propagandizing, popularizing or instigating in any way whatsoever, whether directly or indirectly, of any ideas and views related to non-traditional sexual orientation and/or gender identification otherwise than according to the biological sex.

The Holy Synod thanked the MPs for reaching accord on values of common significance for Bulgarian society, such as the upbringing, education and protection of the children of Bulgaria.

"The Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church - Bulgarian Patriarchate consistently upholds a position on the question of the notions of 'sex', 'marriage' and 'family', as well as on the need to bring up, educate and protect children in spiritual morality, on the basis of the teaching of Christ's Church about man as the greatest creation of God," the announcement reads further.

"We are convinced that the matters concerning sex, family and children's upbringing and education in present-day society are matters of strategic significance not only for the national and constitutional identity of Bulgaria as a Member State of the European Union but also for the preservation and future of the Bulgarian people and of the entire human race. Surveys in Bulgaria show that the majority of Bulgarian citizens share these attitudes and views," the Holy Synod says.
