A roundtable on the 33rd anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of Bulgaria was held in Parliament on Friday. The forum was organized by the parliamentary group of the Bulgarian Socialist Party for Bulgaria (BSP for Bulgaria). The round table was attended by MPs from the 7th Grand National Assembly, which adopted Bulgaria’s new Constitution on July 12, 1991, members of the current 50th National Assembly, representatives of leftist political formations, including Maya Manolova, Tatyana Doncheva and Simeon Slavchev, and representatives on NGOs.

MEP Kristian Vigenin, moderator of the event, said that the Constitution is what gave security and stability to the changes in thоse difficult times Bulgaria has gone through.

Alexander Tomov, MP in the 7th Grand National Assembly, stressed that thanks to this constitution several phenomena have emerged - civil peace, a formula for ethnic peace, and an incredible balance between democracy and sociality.

Georgi Pirinski, also MP in the 7th Grand National Assembly, warned that politics are dangerously becoming a commercial venture with an accompanying entertainment agenda. In his words, such a development means a deep crisis of constitutionalism itself.
